Overview of Social Movement

Following the formal abolition of the Temporary Provisions Effective During the Period of National Mobilization for Suppression of the Communist Rebellion in 1991, Taiwan's civil society swiftly advocated diverse reforms, including freedom of speech, labor rights, environmental protection, and LGBTQ+ equality. Initiatives flourished across the island, with broad participation from all social strata. Moreover, Taiwan transitioned from the "ten-thousand-year congress" to direct elections for the President and Legislature. Despite political changes, civil society remains steadfast in its pursuit of social reform, contributing to Taiwan's vibrant democracy.
