Millet Foundation
財團法人小米穗原住民文化基金會

Nationality and Sovereignty
Millet is an important emblem for Taiwanese Indigenous. Outside of that it plays an important role in ceremonies, this also has an important cultural meaning. This foundation is like millet, one has to kneel humbly to the ground to learn, and millet crystallizes the foundations of the past. When Indigenous collectively took action in the past, this was like millet clustered together, linking together action for the sake of supporting Indigenous values.

The Millet Foundation was formed in 2002, with funds donated by Yu Xiu-xia, and was formed by legal, cultural, and Indigenous experts.

Since its establishment, the Millet Foundation has participated in Indigenous cultural preservation, as well as cultural restoration and dissemination. The Foundation provides a platform and resources to provide a perspective from Indigenous on key issues and autonomy. The board members have different specializations, and when communities need academic, legal, cultural, or other expert advice, efforts can be put in for Indigenous land, education, language, and health.
